BAPTISM
BAPTISM
He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying.
Titus 3:5-8a
From Martin Luther: "Baptism is not simply plain water. Instead it is water used according to God's command and connected with God's Word. Clearly the water alone does not do it, but the Word of God, which is with, in, and among the water, and faith, which trusts this Word of God in the water. For without the Word of God the water is plain water and not a baptism, but with the Word of God it is a grace-filled water of life and a "bath of the new birth in the Holy Spirit."
At Light of Christ we welcome people of all ages--infants, children, youth, and adults--into Christ's family through baptism. Baptism is conducted during a weekend service. You do not have to be a member at Light of Christ to request baptism for yourself or for your child. We encourage all to receive the new life in Jesus Christ through baptism.
To schedule a baptism please contact the church office. 847.658.9250 or email us.
Immersion Baptism
Once a year, in the late summer we hold a total immersion baptism (and re-affirmation of baptism) at a local lake for those who would like to have that original baptism experience. If you are an unbaptized child, youth, or adult and would like the experience of a full immersion baptism, this is for you. If you were baptized as an infant, but your faith has come alive recently and you have wanted a way to celebrate that renewal, this could also be for you.
To participate in the immersion baptism, please contact the church office to express your interest and we will contact you with details. 847.658.9250 or email Jenny Tackett-Irwin at jennyti@locchurch.com.
